Midim People Decry Marginalization, Vow To Dump PDP

Following recent political development, the People of Midim Clan in Abak Local government area have vowed to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pitch tent with any other party if urgent step is not taken to address the issue of marginalization of the area.

A statement issued at the end of an enlarged meeting of Midim Concerned People (MCP) which took place on Wednesday, and signed by a former Transition Committee Chairman, and Chairman Midim Elders Forum, Hon. Anthony Udotim, former PDP Chairman, Midim Ward I, Mr. Aniekan Charlie, PDP Youth Leader, Midim Ward I, Hon. Imoh Iwok, PDP Publicity Secretary Midim Ward I, Mr. Otu  Robert, PDP Ex-Officio Member, Elder Celestine Akaka, High Chief Emmanuel Uko, Elder Friday Udo-obot, PDP Ward Chairmen and other stakeholders, the people noted that since the return of democracy in 1999, they have consistently been voting for the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) in all the elections, but lamented that instead of enjoying the dividends of democracy as witnessed in other Clans, Midim Clan has completely been marginalized.

The statement regretted that Midim Clan with two (2) Political Wards, 17 Villages and 26 polling units cannot boost of any major political position (appointive of elective) while other clans in Abak local government area which do not even have such voting strength like Midim, can proudly boost of 3-5 SAs/PAs to the Governor, Commissioner, House of Assembly Member, local government Council Chairman, Deputy Governor,  Ambassadors among others.

According to the statement, Abak Clan has the serving Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, Director General, Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), Pastor Anietie Ukpe, SAs to the Governor, Mr Rock Dick, Mr. Godwin Dan, Vice Chairman, Abak Local government Council, Lady Benita Ukpe, Leader of Abak Legislative Council, Hon. Solomon Monday Udeme, SAs to Deputy Governor, Mr. Frank Ekpo, Mr. Iphyok Inuenekpo, Hon Iniobong Ukwak, Ambassador, Maj. Gen. Godwin Umoh (Rtd), PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, Mr. Moses Ekpo, PDP Candidate for Abak –Etim Ekpo – Ika Federal Constituency, Elder Aniekan Umanah, PDP Candidate for Abak State Constituency, Elder Udeme Otong among others.

The statement further revealed that Ediene Clan has the Special Adviser, Rural Development and Cooperative, Mrs. Ekemini Umoh, Ambassador Inynag and SA’s to the Governor and  Wife. The statement hinted that Otoro Clan has the Member representing Abak State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Elder Friday Iwok, Secretary Abak Local government area, Mr. Udeme Udofia, SA to the Governor, Mr. Joe Iniodu (who recently resigned)

The statement added that Afaha Obong Clan has the Executive Chairman, Barr. Imoh Williams, SA to the Governor on Diaspora Affairs, Mr. Joe Etukudo, SA to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Rt Hon. Jude Edem, SA to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Hon. Ekerette Inyang, Board Members, Mr. Awakama and Mr. Eventus Ukpe while Midim Clan is left with nothing

The people appealed to the state Governor to look into the issue of Midim Clan to enable the people to be happy and vote for PDP candidates during the forth-coming election otherwise the people will have no option than to vote for other party.

“ It is  sad that Midim as a Clan cannot boost of any political office holder. Not even one project is being initiated by the present administration in Midim  while other Clans can boost of many appointment. So what will make us to be happy to vote for PDP”, one of the Elders queried.
