Victim Of Ukanafun Crisis Cries For Help


For the family of Ofonime Monday Uko of Edem Idim Village in Ukanafun Local Government Area, April 24, 2018 will remain a day not to be forgotten in a hurry.
It is a day that hoodlums terrorizing Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo Local Government Areas invaded the village and destroyed all that he had on earth as the hoodlums burnt down his two houses with properties and clothes, leaving him with nothing.
Uko who spoke in tears with our correspondent while recounting what happened on the fatweful day, said that he was in his house around 10am when the hoodlums numbering 10 came into his compound on motorcycles and opened fire indiscriminately.
He said, he had to hide in one of the buildings to avoid being caught by the bullets, adding that after firing several shots, the killers set the two houses on fire before leaving. He said that he managed to sneak into the nearby bush while the fire rages.
The father of four children said that since after the incident, he has not place to stay even as he move from one persons varender with wife and children to another, thus, his cry for help by government and well meaning individuals.
“As I am speaking now, I do not have a place to stay. The cloth on my body is all that I have as everything were burnt down. I am appealing for help from government and well meaning Nigerians,” he said amid tears.
Our correspondent learned that despite the presence of security operatives who are working seriously to contend the criminals, the hoodlums are still having field dap in many communities in Ukanafun. Some of the communities include, Ikot Udo Obobo where two persons were recently shot dead and houses burnt down, Ikot Odiong, Ikot Enang, Ikot Inyang Abia, Idung Oku Udo, Ikot Inyang Udo and Ohubu.
Meanwhile, three persons said to have been kidnapped at Edem Idim during the invasion of the village by the gang are yet to regain their freedom even as safety is still hanging on a balance.
It was gathered that one month after the abduction, the victim family members are yet to hear from them.

A security source in the area said that security operatives are still working hard to ensure the release of the victims.
