Uniuyo Set For 24th Convocation 4,539 To graduate on Saturday 33 Students Get First Class

The Senate of University of Uyo has disclosed that the 24th convocation ceremony of the Institution will take place on Saturday November 3rd, 2018 at permanent site.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Enefiok Essien(SAN), made the disclosure on Monday while briefing journalists as part of the activities to mark 24th convocation at the Council’s Chamber of the university on Monday.
Prof. Essien said that the the University of Uyo has decided to embark on annual convocation ceremony in line with global-best practice of the university system.
He further explained that the 24th convocation ceremony will feature award of first degree, sub-degree and post graduate degree to four thousand five hundred and thirty-nine (4539) graduating Students.
Prof. Essien also disclosed that three thousand six hundred and seventy-eight (3,678) will be awarded first degree, six hundred and thirty-one will be awarded post graduate (631) degrees and two hundred and thirty (230) will be awarded sub-degrees.
The Vice Chancellor also used the press briefing to inform Journalists that thirty-three students made first class honour, and that the university will award one honourary doctorial degree to a deserving Nigerian at the 24th convocation ceremony.
Prof Essien explained that the 24th convocation ceremony is the second convocation to be conducted by him since he assumed office as the Vice Chancellor, adding that the convocation in the university for the past two years has been a routine exercise.
He also used the press briefing to showcase his achievements in the university which some include; construction, reconstruction, renovation of infrastructures within the university which according to him have posed serious challenges to students, staff and lecturers in the campus.
Prof. Essien maintained that his administration since inception has completed projects initiated by his predecessor and has also initiated new projects; which many of them have been completed and commissioned by the governor of the State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel on May this year while others are still ongoing.
The Vice Chancellor pointed out that his administration in the university has added more boost to the institution, as academic has witnessed significant progress for the past two years.
He said Univeristy of Uyo for the past two years has recorded the highest number of inaugural lectures and public lectures which are all championed by renounced academicians
Prof. Essien also disclosed that since his emergence, his administration has worked tirelessly towards making sure that the University of Uyo meets the required global academic standard and maintain a better place in national academic ranking.
He said that because of his relentless effort, University of Uyo ranking presently has been moved, as it has been ranked among top twenty best universities in the country.
Prof. Essien further mentioned that the University of Uyo just like other institution has a major challenge which according to him is inadequate funding.
He appealed to State and Federal governments, corporate bodies, non- governmental organizations and the general public to help the university so as to deliver the best and qualitative education to all Nigerians.
