Ukanafun War Theatre: 2 Persons Shot Dead As Residents Flee LGA


Residents of Ukanafun local government area have decried the blood bath and killing that is currently going on in the area saying that the dastardly act is getting out of hands.

The cry of the people, The Sensor learnt is as a result of two persons killed in less than 24 hours. It would be recalled that one Iboro Elijah Akpan popularly known as paragi was shot dead on Friday evening while in a barbing salon in his Nkek village. The dust over the brutal killing was yet to settle, a lawyer, Barr. Mfon Etukudo was shot dead in his house in Idug Nneke village on Sunday.

It was further learnt that the killings which has increased to about 25 since the beginning of this year, has created fear in the minds of the residents even as many residents have relocated to other local government areas of the state.

A source disclosed to The Sensor that the recent killings in the area is said to be master-minded by one Akaninyene Jumbo Uko alias “Iso Akpafid”. The said Akaninyene is said to be on the police wanted list over allegation of master-minding the killing of the former secretary of Ukanafun local government area, Obong Ime Atakpa.

The source further said that some elders of Nkek village that the late Iboro Elijah Akpan hailed from, had reported to Iso Akpafid that the deceased was the one that leaked information of his crime to the police and as well condemned killings in the area, which prompted the security to hunt for him. The villain was said to have mobilized his strike force from his hideout, trailed and killed the deceased.

Meanwhile, residents of Ukanafun have blamed the state government for the inability to put to an end, the wanton killing that is going on in the area. A resident who refused to give his name for fear of being attacked, told The Sensor that government is not committed to putting to an end, the blood bath in the area. He therefore, called for a declaration of a state of emergency in the area and propes investigation of the situation.

Another resident called for the establishment of an army base to check the activities of the murderers.

When contacted on the latest killings the state police public relations officers, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu confirmed the killings saying that about 50 policemen alongside the commissioner of Police are currently in Ukanafun to access the situation.

He said, “As I am speaking with you now, we are in Ukanafun. We have about 50 policemen here. The Commissioner of Police is right here. We are assessing the situation”.
