Twelve local government chairmanship aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Eket Local Government Area have petitioned Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel over the appointment of Mr. Frank Archibong as the Chairman of the congress committee for the local government area.

In a three-page petition addressed to the governor, dated 16th April 2016, co-signed by Chief Usoro Usoro, Pastor Samuel Warrie James, Mr. Victor Bassey Henry and nine others and made available to our correspondent, the petitioners described as an error and obvious oversight. the inclusion of Mr. Frank Archibong as the chairman of the congress committee. While reminding the governor that Mr. Frank Archibong is undoubtedly the incumbent chairman of Eket Local Government Transition committee and one of the aspirants for the forth coming local government chairmanship election who has done consultations to that effect equally like the twelve of them.

The petitioners also reminded the governor that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not made for the benefit of only one man or one family, stating obviously that Mr. Frank Archibong had once been appointed as the Secretary of Eket Local Government Transition committee in the state, and twice as the chairman of Eket Local Government Transition Committee which he still holds till date. The twelve aspirants also maintained that making Mr. Frank Archibong the chairman or even member of the congress committee will give him undue advantage as they have discovered a clandestine plot to doctor the lists of credible ward and chapter executives to be produced unanimously by members of the party at the ward and chapter levels respectively.

The petitioners further explained that the ploy is to enable Mr. Frank Archibong substitute the names of those to be duly elected at the congress with the already compiled lists of his supporters.

The petitioners have also drawn the attention of the governor to the fact that one out of the three geo-political zones in the local government area has been left out in the composition of the congress committee and which deserves to be considered in the interest of peace, justice and fair play.

The twelve chairmanship aspirants however assured the governor of their continued resolve to work for the progress, peace and upliftment of the party in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria provided the party also protect their interest as loyal party members.

The petitioners therefore prayed the governor to review the composition of the congress committee for Eket Local Government Area by replacing Mr. Frank Archibong in the committee, noting that he has no justifiable reason to be so chosen for an unmerited advantage in the committee. Otherwise, the Eket people, according to them, will rightly resist any act of imposition and impunity. They also prayed the governor to ensure that the procedure for the selection of the congress committee members should be able to restore hope and confidence to all aspirants in the election as the party is not a one-man party.

It could be recalled that the state executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party had last week published the lists of the composition of the congress committees for the state with Mr. Frank Achibong as the chairman of Eket Local Government Area congress committee, while the incumbent member representing Eket State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Mr. David Lawrence Udofia and his immediate predecessor, Mr. Ayang Akanimo Ayang as ordinary members of the committee.
