Onofiok Luke To Buhari: Fulfil Promises To Nigerians


As recession continue biting harder by the day, the speaker, Akwa Ibom state House of Assembly, Barr Onofiok Luke has charged president Muhammadu Buhari to shun sentiment and employ capable hands that will help take the country out of the present situation.

Barr Luke said the APC led government is very far from its campaign promises made to the people, and called for redirection to end the harshness of the present economic recession.

Addressing the state chapter of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in his office during a courtesy call on him yesterday, the Speaker thanked IPAC in the state for their constructive criticism so far, which has enabled the state government to live upto the expectation of the people. He charged the IPAC members to use the same spirit and engage their national body urge the federal government to start fulfilling their campaign promises to the poor masses.

“ I am appealing to the federal government of Nigeria to live upto the campaign promises they made to Nigerians. They promised to feed the school children; they promised to pay N5,000 to unemployed youths they promised to the make one Naira to equals one dollars, fuel pump price is not N45.00 as promised…..” he added.

The lawmaker mentioned that the federal government must as a matter of fact intelligent Nigerians into strategic positions, irrespective of their political party affiliations, so as to revive the country economy.

However, the speaker lauded IPAC in the state for effectively cooperating with the PDP led government in Akwa Ibom state, specifically for heeding to the clarion call of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s inaugural speech which called on all to join hands and build a greater Akwa Ibom State.

He said the visit coincided with the day he emerged as the PDP candidate in 2014, which saw him to the present position he is occupying. While commending the group for their peaceful conduct in the state, Barr. Luke promised a cordial working relationship with IPAC in the state, and pledged to create a liaison office in the House of Assembly to help IPAC channel their complaints to the House.

Addressing the Speaker on the essence of the visit, the chairman, inter-party Advisory Council, Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Marthins Inyang said, IPAC is ready to partner with the 6th Assembly as a mark of respect and solidarity to good governance as exemplified by the speaker. He said with the good working relationship between the legislature and executive in the state, coupled with the maturity and sterling leadership quality of the Speaker, IPAC will continue to discharge its functions well.

Engr. Martins disclosed that IPAC in the state is satisfied with the leadership style of Governor Udom Emanuel and promised a continuous support for the government. He applauded the Speaker for the various bills they have passed so far, especially the last one which gives a sense of belonging to the physically challenged.

The IPAC chairman pleaded with the speaker to create a liaison office in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly which an IPAC member will oversee, to help IPAC channel their complaints to the House. He said by so doing, IPAC in the state will have an avenue to contribute their quota to the betterment of the state.

He thanked the speaker for giving IPAC the opportunity for interaction and promised the group undiluted support to the 6thAssembly.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Party Affairs, Mr. Lawrence Udoh in his closing remarks, reminded the speaker that IPAC members should be duely informed and invited to every public hearing in the House. He thanked the speaker for his sterling leadership style.

Highpoint of the visit was the conferment of the Speaker as the patron of the group and award presentation.
