In their avowed show of support and commitment to the aspirations of the State governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for a return to the Hilltop mansion come 2019 and the member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency, Barr Ime Okon for the office of Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency, the people of Itu/Ibiono Federal constituency have staged a One Thousand-man March in support of the duo.

The March, which was tagged “NDA YE GOV. UDOM EMMANUEL/HON. IME OKON 2019” encouraged all in Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local government areas to support PDP’s zoning arrangement for posterity. They insisted that it was the turn of Ibiono to produce the House of Representatives member since Itu is completing her second term in 2019.

The March which started at Itam junction took through Uyo-Ikot Ekpene road to Ikot Ambang market. The train finally assembled at West Itam Secondary School, Opposite NNPC mega, station where a rally was staged.

Addressing the rally at the end of the March, the Councillor representing Ibiono, Ward 4, Mr. Peter Donald spoke of the need to support Governor Udom Emmanuel given his giant strides in the areas of industrialization and provision of critical infrastructure. He asked for the subsisting zoning arrangement between Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas to be respected by allowing Ibiono Ibom to produce the next House of Representatives member, urging the people to encourage Barr. Ime Bassey Okon to run because of his excellent performance in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly.

Mr. Donald said it would be very unfair for Itu to produce another House of Representatives member in 2019 after they had taken two terms (2011-2015 and 2015-2019).

Also speaking, Mr Akan Sylvester, Itu, Ward 9, explained that if zoning is set aside, allowing the contest between the two sister local government areas to be by strength and might, then Ibiono Ibom would keep on producing the House of Representatives member as they have a better voting strength and a stronger political bargaining power. He emphasized the need for Barr Ime Bassey Okon from Ibiono Ibom to represent the Federal Constituency in 2019.

Speaking in the same vein were Comrade Abraham Umoh, a political stakeholder in Itu, Imaobong Ebong, Itu PDP stalwart, Mbuotidem Okon, President, Itu/Ibiono Ibom Traders Association, among others.
