Esit Eket Political Turmoil: More Bigwigs Defect To APC

A pioneer Chapter Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Esit Eket local government are, Hon Mustapha Emem Edoho and other founding fathers on Tuesday decamped to the All Progressive Congress (A.P.C)
The decampees who are from Ward 10, 7, 8 and 2, namely Emem Edoho, Uwem Edukere, Mr. Theophilus Umoeyo, former legislature leader of the council, Pastor and Mrs. Joe Edukere and Chief Effiong Udoisang decamped with hundreds of their supporters.
Receiving them, the A.P.C Political leader of Esit Eket and former House of Representative member for Eket Federal Constituency, Barr. Bassey Dan Abia Jnr said all was not well with the P.D.P family and welcomed them into the A.P.C.
He said God brought President Muhammadu Buhari at the right time in the history of Nigeria as impunity, fraud of all manners and corruption was almost becoming a way of life to the elites and opportunist in government at all levels.
“The essence of Change is to instill discipline in our public life and return democracy to the generality of Nigerians but we must not fight established authority of the State except with our thumb on the ballot paper during elections”.
“Former Governor Godswill Akpabio once said that Akwa Ibom State cannot afford to play opposition in national politics, so must it be in 2019 in the State”, Abia said.
The pioneer Chapter Chairman of P.D.P Alhaji Mustapha Emem Edoho who spoke on behalf of the decampees said they took the decision to dump the party after carefully studying the political waves and current sweeping through the country.
“We have come this day to join our leader, Barr. Bassey Dan Abia into the All Progressive congress because of the current political waves sweeping across the country and Akwa Ibom State in particular and the failure of the present State Government to spread development into Esit Eket”, Mr Edoho said.
He blamed the misfortune bedeviling the party in Esit Eket to the way things were being handled by a family as “a one man show” and said the party’s grip on the State is gone with the collapse of Esit Eket to A.P.C.
In his vote of thanks, the Chapter Chairman of the A.P.C in Esit Eket, Mr. Aniefiok Koop, welcomed the decampees and assured them of accommodation for the purpose of restructuring the politics of Esit Eket for the benefit of all, through attraction of dividends of democracy from the centre.
