Eket Women Are Happy with A’Ibom First Lady – AKHA Member Debunks Media Report

The Member representing Eket state constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and chairman, House Committee on Environment, Hon. David Lawrence Udofa has said that a front page newspaper story insinuating that women in Eket local government area were angry with the First Lady of Akwa Ibom state, Mrs Martha Udom for sidelining them, was false and unfounded.

The lawmaker in a release signed by his Legislative Assistant, Kufre Sam, said that the writer of the story is not a Media Aide to the lawmaker as held in some quarters.

He stated that the writer of the said story was fired by the lawmaker for scripting and publishing a similar story against the lawmaker some time ago. He called on members of the public to disregard the said story as it does not reflect the opinion and aspirations of Eket women.

“That the story does not reflect the feelings and aspirations of Eket women who are very happy with Her Excellency for her supportive roles to the women in Eket through various programmes such as; yearly parley with the aged people; trading loans for women; widows’ empowerment and empowerment through the Feyrep programmes which Eket women are among the beneficiaries.

“That the general public should discountenance the said story as it is ill-conceived by the writer to cause bad blood and ill-feelings in Eket state constituency,” the lawmaker said.
