Economic Diversification: Emman Ekon Partners Samsung

In his drive towards facilitating diversification of the economy, the member representing Etim Ekpo/Ika in the House of Representatives and Chairman, Local Content Committee, Mr. Emmanuel Ekon recently has met with Mr Won, Executive Vice President of Samsung Heavy Industry alongside Mr Jo (VP) and Mr Jay Jay, Fmr Managing Director, Nigeria operations at Samsung Hotel, Goeje, South Korea.

The Executive VICE President of Samsung Heavy Industry – Mr Won who expressed his delight in meeting Ekon in person, intimated the Lawmaker that the whole industry in South Korea is aware of the strides of the Local Content Committee under the leadership of Mr. Emmanuel Ekon. He used the opportunity to solicit more cooperation between the Local Content Committee and Samsung Heavy Industry, while Mr Jay Jay on his part asserted: “I have never met one Nigerian as patriotic and firm as Mr. Emmanuel Ekon”.

In his response, Mr. Emmanuel Ekon thanked the management of Samsung for extending the invitation to him and also used the opportunity to give insight on the position of the local content law, and the need for Samsung to live and operate business in Nigeria as a responsible corporate citizen.

He equally advised them to think about diversitifying their operations in Sub Sahara Africa using Nigeria as a hub. Making his remarks, Ekon said that Looking at a population of about 160m people in Nigeria, Samsung can do well if their appliances and mobile phones are manufactured in Nigeria to also serve African markets which they also promised to discuss at the board meeting.

He later inspected the Egina FPSO which is almost ready to sail to Nigeria, which is the biggest oil FPSO in the whole world according to Samsung.
