Chris Isiguzo Emerges New NUJ President


Delegates at the 6th Triennial Conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists have elected a new NUJ president. He is Comrade Chris Isiguzo, who until his resignation to contest for the office of president was the Vice President Zone C of the union.

Comrade Isiguzo beat six other candidates, with 346 votes, including the incumbent, Comrade Waheed Odusile, who scored 329 votes.

After the count of votes, the result showed as follows:

Abdulwaheed Odusile – 329, Atunbi Bamidele – 101, Olalere Abiodun – 56, Otunba Mike Aladenika – 9, Chris Isiguzo – 346, Uzaka Seiyefa – 30, and Jacob Edi – 16. Void votes 5. Total votes cast 887.

A consummate Journalist, Isiguzo is expected to bring radical reformations to re-jig the NUJ as a force in nation building.

The new president has promised to restore the lost voice of the union and ensure that welfare of journalists become a Paramount concern of the Union.
