Another Bank Robbery Hits AK

The incidents of robbery attack on customers who withdraw money from banks within Uyo metropolis, took another dangerous dimension yesterday when dare-devil robbers chased and intercepted a Toyota Hilux Utility Vehicle conveying money from a bank and snatched millions of naira amidst several gunshots. The robbery incident took place along Ring Road, near Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo.
Our Crime Desk gathered that though no life was lost, some persons who accompanied the vehicle that carried the money sustained various degree of injury and were rushed to an undisclosed hospital. Eye witness told our Crime Desk that the robbers fired several gunshots before succeeding in snatching the money.
It would be recalled that four notorious armed robbers last month invaded a New Generation Bank in the State and attacked a bank customer before escaping with huge sum of money.
In August this year, day-devil armed robbers stuck in broad daylight at Dominic Utuk Avenue, near Christ the King Primary School, Wellington Bassey Way which is not far from Government House. In all the cases, the robbers made away with their loot.
Confirming yesterday’s attack, the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Bala Elkana said that the robbers trailed the victim from the bank that he had gone to withdraw money and snatched it.
Elkana said that no life was lost in the incident and the Police is on the trail of the robbers to apprehend them. The Police image maker who did not rule out insiders conspiracy, noted that investigation has begun to unravel those behind the attack. “We will get to the root of the incident as the money was to said to belong to an organization,” he said.
