Victims of flood incident in Ikpa Ibekwe community in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area were recently, thrilled with relief materials in the spirit of Christmas by the Akwa Ibom State Government in collaboration with the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Mohammed Sani-Sidi.Speaking on behalf of the State Government, the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Lady Valerie Ebe, said the administration of Chief Godswill Akpabio was committed to the wellbeing of its citizens and will always ensure they have the best in terms of basic amenities and other infrastructure.

Lady Ebe charged beneficiaries to be partners in progress with government, stressing that they should reciprocate the gesture by making sure the items are properly distributed and used.Also speaking, the Director General of NEMA who said the flood incident was as a result of heavy hydrological run-off which had limited exit due to blocked channels and environmental issues, appealed to residents of the state to be environment-friendly.

Represented by the South-South Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Ben Oghenah, the Director General congratulated the State Governor for the massive risk reduction compliant infrastructural transformation that is ongoing in the state, saying “the investment done presently will go a long way in mitigating any future disaster incidence.” Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Council, Arc Ufot Udoinyang, thanked the State Government and NEMA, saying though the incident was pathetic, the relief materials have rekindled hope in the people.Items presented included bags of rice cartons of milk, tomatoes, soaps, detergents, salt, sugar, blankets, mosquito nets, Guinea Brocades, wax print, roofing sheets, plastic buckets mattresses, vegetable oil, palm oil, noodles among others.
