The Speaker gave the caution yesterday in Onna during a reception ceremony in honour of his colleague and member representing Onna State Constituency, Mr. Nse Essien.
Addressing indigenes of Ikot Akpan Nko Community in Onna Local Government Area who gathered to celebrate their representative in the state legislature, Barr Luke frowned at a situation where youths of benefiting communities will stop contracted companies from executing government projects and making certain financial demands from the companies before allowing them to work.
He said that such act is against development and can be frustrating on the sincere efforts of government to spread development by way of hindering timely delivery of projects.
The Speaker urged the Ikot Akpan Nko village youths, as well as the entire Akwa Ibom youths to rather support the developmental efforts of government by allowing the hired contractors a conducive working environment to fast track effective and timely job delivery.
While thanking the community for their support so far to the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, Speaker Luke also urged the people to support the governor more with prayers for the grace of God to be upon him so as to enable him meet the high expectations of the people.
He also called for prayers for President Buhari who he said, needs God’s grace to enable him use his powers positively for the benefit of the masses.
He also appealed to the people to reduce their expectations from Governor Emmanuel. This, he said, should be in consideration of the fact that the current government is working under a bad economy, which according to him, has negatively affected the financial capacity of the government.
Speaking on the reception of Otuekong Nse Essien by his community, the speaker congratulated the Onna born lawmaker on his reception and conferment of “Obong Unwana” title by the traditional class in the community, adding that the event was a proof that the lawmaker is widely accepted and at peace with all classes of people including the traditional institution.
He further thanked the community for the show of love and support to their son, while also noting that he had joined the community in the celebration of the lawmaker as a show of appreciation to him for the love and support he has all through his first one year in office, also enjoyed from him both at the leadership level of the house as Deputy Chief Whip and at the general level as member.
