AK CAN Chair Urges Christians To Avoid Division

Christian in Akwa Ibom State have been urged to resist divisive tendencies, and to embrace unity, especially now that the country and Akwa Ibom State in particular, need social cohesion and homogenous Christian network to offer acceptable prayers to God for peace, progress and sustainable development in the land.
The State chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Dr. Ndueso Ekwere, made the urge in Uyo, while delivering the goodwill message from Christians in the State to the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel and his wife, Deaconess Martha Udom at the thanksgiving service held to mark the celebration of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s third year in office.
The chairman condemned breeding of what he described as “sprinter groups” among Christian leaders in the State, and reaffirmed that CAN remains the only formidable voice and mouth-piece of all Christians both in Nigeria and Akwa Ibom State, “the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) remains the unified voice and mouth-piece of all Christians both in the country and the State, and will so remain,” the chairman noted.
While emphasizing the stand of the Christian Association in the State on truth, even as the body welcomes constructive criticisms, he regretted unethical media practices of some news reporters in the State, saying, “as a father and leader therefore, let me advise the press that whereas they are the watch dogs of the society, they should always try to present balanced and true position of issues knowing that every person will give account of what he says or does.”
He reiterated that the present CAN executive in the State stands for truth and will continue to remain in that position, and advised Christians and other residents in the State to refrain from negative dispositions, back stabbing and unnecessary mudslinging, and disclosed that the State CAN loves Governor Udom Emmanuel and will continue to support, and pray for his re-election in 2019, as the governor, has demonstrated leadership qualities that ensure prowess in the management of the scarce resources of the State to spark up human and infrastructural development, such as good roads networks; qualitative basic education, improved power supply, workers’ welfare, security of lives and property, public-private partnership in industrialization of the State economy and other lofty innovations the administration has brought to the State in all sectors of its economy in the past three years.
