AK APC Suffers Setback


As a show of appreciation to governor Udom Emmanuel’s, prompt intervention in erosion menace, and the commissioning of seven new roads in Oron town, over one thousand members of All Progressive Congress, APC last weekend defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Our correspondent learnt that the decampe APC members were supporters of Mr. Victor Ini Okon, who was the party House of Assembly candidate for Oron/Udung Uko state constituency during the 2015 election, before he decamped to PDP, a day to his re-run election into the state constituency seat that was declared vacant by the Appeal Court.

Speaking during a meeting at Eyo Abasi, Oron local government, the leader of a political group, Oron Liberation Coalition, Mr Benedict Ekpe, who also served as the campaign manager for the APC House of Assembly candidate during the 2015 election, said they decided to returned to their former party, the PDP, having seen the quality leadership of governor Udom Emmanuel, and his interest for Oro nation.

Mr. Ekpe, also appreciated the state governor, Udom for the construction and commissioning of new roads in Oron town, and his promise to remodel the town, adding that why they decided to join PDP, having realized that the governor’s plans for Oro and entire Akwa Ibom State are genuine.

Mr Ekpe, a grassroot politician from Oron urban, ward 8, hinted that since their principal, Mr Victor Ini Okon had already decamped to his former party, the PDP, his followers and supporters should also go with him, and appealed to governor Udom Emmanuel to give appointment to Mr Victor Okon, for him to continue to integrate his supporters and work with them for the success of PDP in Oron.

Also speaking, a former APC chieftain in Oron local government, Mr Eric Akan, who also defected to PDP promised to work for the success of party, and Udom Emmanuel in Oron local government, commending the governor for his performance in office in just one year, especially intervention works done in Oron.

He said they decided to lead about six political groups, which before now, were working for APC back to PDP, their original party, was in the interest of the Oron people and called on the party leadership to carry everybody along in the scheme of things.

Receiving the defectors, the chapter chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Oron local government, Mr Murfy Esin, welcomed the defectors back to the party, and promised to build a party that will belong to all, hinting that PDP is well rooted in Oron.

Mr Esin called on everyone to support the government of Mr Udom Emmanuel, because he is a God sent to Akwa Ibom state.
