The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh has revealed that the state government is sourcing for private organizations to help fund the 30th anniversary celebration holding between 14th and 25th of this month.

He stated this yesterday at a press briefing in his office.

He told newsmen that the government is aware of the cost implication for the anniversary and has since opened discussions with private sector leaders, maintaining that already some of them have agreed to the proposal to help fund the anniversary.

According to the commissioner, since the sum total from interested corporate giants has not been reached yet, the state government could not put an amount to the cost of the celebration.

The 30th anniversary with the theme “Arise, Let Us Build The Future Together” he said will be used as a platform to continue the narrative of the government on industrialization and take concrete steps to encourage private sector participation in Akwa Ibom State.

This is why according to the commissioner a day has been dedicated to micro, small and medium scale exhibition adding that it is a way to put an end to the begging culture, open the eyes of youths to opportunities and encourage them to participate in the private sector.

“I am not sure how many youths in this State are aware that they could create an idea, go to Bank of Industry or any other bank to get funds. So this clinic is to expose our younger generation to the possibilities in the private sector. If we continue to allow the younger ones to depend on government, we are going to continue to have pressure on government” he noted.

Mr. Udoh also said during the 30th anniversary celebrations, two major projects for job and wealth creation will be commissioned and they include the syringe factory and electric metering factory maintaining that apart from direct employment by the companies, other businesses will also thrive within the locations of the industries.

Unveiling the 30th anniversary logo which is presented in the orange colour, he listed some of the activities during the anniversary to include the commissioning of the renovated Etinan General Hospital, swearing in of the new chairman of  Akwa Ibom State council of Chiefs and Miss Akwa Ibom pageant.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Victor Antai noted that the whole idea of the celebration which revolves around what the Akwa Ibom Orange colour represents is aimed at showing the world that Akwa Ibom people are optimistic, sociable, hospitable, adventurous and industrious.

He said the rich culture of Akwa Ibom, Cuisines, dress styles, dance among others will be on display at the occasion noting that the Miss Akwa Ibom that will emerge will be the one to drive the Akwa Ibom brand.

The briefing was attended by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Pastor Praise Okon and other Directors.
