Again, A’Ibom Teachers Kidnapped …More Schools Shutdown

The spate of kidnapping that has paralyzed public and private schools in Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun Local Government Areas in recent times have continued unabated with yesterday abduction of two secondary teachers in Etim Ekpo.
The two teachers, Mr. Mfonobong Marcus Ukpong from Uruk Ata 2 village and Pastor Aniekan Etim Enang from Ikot Ibekwe village in Ukanafun Local Government Area were said to be on their way to Obong High School, Obong Ntak when they were kidnapped.
The Sensor gathered from the family source that the kidnappers had earlier served Ukpong a letter demanding that he pays three hundred thousand Naira (N300,000) to them or be ready to face their wrath. It was further gathered that the teacher who had no such money, had taken his fate in his hands praying God to touch the hearts of the dreaded men who are said to have made life difficult to many residents of the area.
He was, however, said to have been ambushed alongside his colleague, Enang while on their way to school. Enang is said to be a pastor with Deeper Christian Life Ministry (Deeper Life Church) while Ukpong is a cousin to the Etim Ekpo council chairman, Udeme Eduo. The duo are said to be taken to an unknown place and the kidnappers are yet to make ransom demand as at the time of filing this report.
The kidnap of the two teachers has forced schools in the area to shutdown for fears of who would be the next victim.
It would be recalled that schools in Ukanafun have been shutdown due to the activities of kidnappers.
Meanwhile, family sources have pointed accusing fingers to two notorious gang men in the area said to be nephew of a retired principal.
The Sensor learnt that the proprietor of the school, Prof. Akpan Udoh is yet to comment on the kidnap of his staff as he is said to be saddened and devastated.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Odiko Macdon said that he is not aware of the kidnap. He promised to reach back to our correspondent once he gets information and was yet to do so as at the time of filing this report.
