A’Ibom Catholic Priest Kidnapped – N20million Ransom Demanded


Kidnappers of catholic priest in Ukanafun Local Government area have allegedly demanded 20 million ransom. The priest, Rev. Fr Felix Akpan was kidnapped on Monday by gunmen.

Akpan who is the Parish Priest of St. Michael Parish, Ikot Etim was abducted on Monday night.

His vehicle was said to have been abandoned at Ikot Obiodo Village, Oruk Anam Local Government Area.

A source told our correspondent that the dare devil kidnappers have contacted catholic priests in Ikot Ekpene Diocese. It was however not clear if the church will pay the ransom.

Meanwhile, a combine security surveillance are said to have taken over the area in a bid to rescue the priest. When our correspondent visited the area, residents were seen discussing the incident.

It would be recalled that Ukanafun had been in the news in recent times as a result of the activities of kidnappers, cultists and armed robbers. No fewer than five persons have been kidnapped while eleven persons have been killed by gunmen. The killing prompted development of surveillance to fish out the criminals.
