5 Students Arrested In A’Ibom Over Schools Clashes


The timely intervention of men of the Nigerian Navy, on Friday reportedly saved the clash between students of Government Technical College, Abak and that of Comprehensive Secondary School, Ediene Abak from degenerating into a full scale war.
The Sensor gathered that trouble started on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, when students from the two schools were returning from school and had a clash at the new bridge, it was further learnt became more serious the following day and climaxed on Friday when they took laws into their hands and used various dangerous weapons in a bid to outclass their rivalries in a fight that created tension in the area.
The intervention of the Abak Police Division did not curtail the crisis as the rampaging students stoned the Police vans that came to quell the crisis as the DPO’s vehicle was stoned. The intervention of the men of the Nigerian Navy saved the situation.
It was learnt that five students were reportedly arrested by the police and are currently being detained at Abak Police Division. One of the parents of the arrested students who preferred anonymity, confirmed the arrest of his child. He said that he was heading to the Police Station to secure his release as at the time of filing this report.
