Severance Benefits: AKSG Owes Councils N1.1 Billion

The Akwa Ibom State Government said it is owing former local government council chairmen, Conuncillors and Supervisors who served in the 31 local government councils from 2007 to date the sum of N1.1 billion.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Victor Antai disclosed this in Uyo when the Forum of ex-councillors in Akwa Ibom State paid him a courtesy call recently.
Mr. Antai, a former chairmen of Mbo local government area noted that inspite of the dwindling revenue of the state, Governor Udom Emmanuel was working out modality to pay the debt soon.
“If we cannot pay in full, we can at least start paying in part”, the commissioner assured.
He added that the ministry was working out something and would soon reach out to the ex-councillors.
Earlier, the Chairman of the forum, Mr. Charles Bassey had pledged  the support of the ex-councillors to Governor Udom Emmanuel.
