Road Maintenance Agency: DG Indicts Akpabio

The Director General (DG) of Akwa Ibom Road Maintenance Agency, Dr. Dean Udom has indicted the immediate past administration of Ex-Governor Godswill Akpabio when it stated publicly that the Agency which was established in January 2013 had only existed on the pages of paper until the present administration of Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
The Director General, Dr. Dean Udom dropped the bombshell last Thursday when he appeared before the State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation to defend its 2015 budget.
According to Udom, the Agency had never received any funding or grants except for subventions which were not more than N5 million.  The DG added that due to the long abandonment of some road maintenance equipment purchased by the Akpabio’s government for the Agency, most of the equipment have all been vandalized hence the agency needs more funds to carry out the necessary repairs.
Dr. Udom had while attending to questions from the committee members explained further that the Agency was expected to have three other centres in each of the three Senatorial Districts in the state with full complements of construction equipments to enhance road maintenance across the state.
He went on to present a budget estimate of N2 billion for the 2016 fiscal year.  It would be recalled that the Agency which was established by law under previous administration of Dr. Godswill Akpabio had taken delivery of road maintenance equipment including rollers, graders, pay-loaders and bulldozers worth over N3 billion to enhance the functionality of the Agency where Bishop Sam Akpan had served as its maiden chairman.
The Agency was established for the purposes of rehabilitating bad portions of roads in the state.
Responding the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Usoro Akpausoh said the Committee will give necessary considerations to the Agency’s budget for the year.
