Ahead of this month election into the Akwa Ibom State council of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, the Christian Council of Nigeria, CCN, has declared that it is their turn to produce the next chairman of the Christian body consequently, CCN said it has therefore adopted Rev. Ndueso Ekwere as their sole candidate to contest for the position.
Making the adoption yesterday during the inauguration of the new executive members of the council at United Evangelical Church (UEC), 165 Aka road, Uyo, the new state chairman of C CN, Bishop Israel Benson said that the decision to adopt Rev. Ekwere of UEC as their sole candidate, was based on his leadership qualities.
He said that Rev. Ekwere who is the South/South Secretary of CCN has what it takes to lead CAN in the state.
He further noted that while other blocks that make up CAN had in the past produced chairman, it was the turn of CCN to produce this time. Bishop Benson called on members of other blocks to support Rev. Ekwere’s aspiration in order to emerge the new CAN chairman.
Meanwhile, Rev. Benson has promised to restructure the council to enable its activities reach nooks and crannies of the state.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after his inauguration as the third chairman of the council, the man of God said that the ultimate aim of the council is to spread the gospel of Christ to all parts of the state. He noted that CCN principally belongs to the mainland (orthodox) churches.
“It is the gospel of Christ that we preach for the growth of christianity, we want to ensure that we spread the gospel to all nook and crannies of the state. We are going to be proactive on issues to ensure that we achieve our goal”, he said.
He further disclosed that CCN is a block within Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and that the body is not in conflict with each other but work to complement each other.
On his message to the christendom, the man of God stressed the need for peace in order to carryout the work that Christ gave them, that is, spreading the gospel of salvation.
Earlier in his message, the Uyo superintendency Pastor of UEC, Rev. John Ojobo (JP), stressed the need for christians to work to increase in whatever God has given them to do.
Rev. Ojobo who preached on the topic, “Creativity That Produces Increase”, regretted many Christians today are making the church to get weaker by the day spiritually. He said that many no longer pay attention to the words of God, adding that those that give time and resources to the things of God are bound to increase spiritually, numerically and financially.
