As the 2019 governorship battle hot up, several aides of Governor Udom Emmanuel are on the road seeking for endorsement and for the Commissioner for Transport and Petroleum Resources, Mr. Orman Esin, transporters are his major constituency.
Last December, tricycle operators popularly called keke riders were forced to affix stickers on their vehicles with the words “Transporter for Udom”.
Yesterday, May 22, the riders were summoned to another election mobilization meeting in Uyo by the Commissioner but curiously many of them ignored the invitation and went about their businesses.
The Sensor went to town to ask some of the keke riders why they were not at the meeting summoned by the Commissioner and their responses were quite revealing “my brother we are tired of all these meetings. It is about the 2019 governorship election. After they deceive us to vote, we are left to continue suffering” one respondent who preferred told this newspaper.
Another respondents said they were more interested in driving their keke to earn their income adding that the meeting with the Commissioner will not solve their problem.
“We have School fees to pay, food and other basic needs to provide for our children and government cannot give no money to provide these things; so what kind of meeting do they want us to attend” he said.
The Sensor reports that the Plaza was a beehive of activities when the keke riders were summoned by the Commissioner as many of them went about their businesses.
It will also be recalled that the Udom administration has enlisted several methods, to warn the keke riders, particularly tax holidays but many of them insist that the economy of the State is not favourable to them.
