The gale of defections that have recently befallen the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State have drawn violent reactions from the residue of PDP faithful in Ika local government area.
On Friday May 26, 2017 at a well attended ceremony held at St. Patrick’s Primary School, Urua Inyang to inaugurate Chapter and Ward Caucuses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ika Local Government area, thugs numbering over thirty armed with machetes, bottles, guns and other dangerous weapons alleged to be hired and sponsored by a State Officer of the PDP and an indigene of the area swooped on the gathering and smashed the public address system, plastic chairs and tables.
They unleashed horror on the party supporters injuring many using machetes, broken bottles, gun shots, and clubs.
The ceremony which was billed for 2.30pm was barely underway with the arrival of the State Vice Chairman/Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Chairman Obong Kufre Inyangette, and other guests seated when the thugs emerged from the nearby bush behind the Primary school, and started attacking people.
They vandalized the public address system and generating set and chased away party supporters.
