2015: PDP, APC Clash In Akwa Ibom

Following Governor Godswill Akpabio  full grip of the party as the Leader of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state and formal defection of Obong Umana Okon Umana to the opposition All Progressive Congress, APC, on Saturday, November 29, 2014 the two major political parties in the state are on collision course.

Our correspondent gathered that the battle which has already caused tension in the state is said to be between pro and anti zoning position of the governorship seat.It was further learnt that supporters of Obong Umana are not only strategizing to ensure that APC wins the governorship election, but want to win more State and Federal Constituency seats, a development that PDP faithful have vowed to resist at all cost.

An APC Chieftain in the State Obong Samuel Udobong said the party is ready to take over Government House come 2015. He however dismissed a repeat of 2011 clash between the supporters of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and the PDP in which many people lost their lives and properties. He said, “we are ready to take over government in 2015. Unlike what happened in 2011, the party will not involve in any issues with PDP. We are only focused on winning the elections”.

Obong Udobong called on APC faithful to remain focused in its bid to achieve goal. Also speaking, a chieftain of PDP, Otuekong Okon Etim Umoh said APC is only a gathering of failed politicians. He said that the party has no place in the Hiltop Mansion, come 2015.His word, “Those moving to APC are failed politicians that have no business with Akwa Ibom Government House in 2015.”

He however cautioned supporters of the opposition party against making inflammatory statements that could set the state on fire even while he played down on possible clash between the two parties.
