Ibibio Stakeholders in Uyo senatorial district have admitted that Akwa Ibom State was created on the tripod of Ibibio Annang and Oro ethnic nationalities, while the issue of senatorial district arrangement was made for political and administrative convenience.In their separate speeches during the consultation visit of Oro Union and Council of Oro traditional Rulers to Uyo Stakeholders in the palace of Uyio Ikpaisong Ibibio and Paramount Ruler of Etinan local government area, HRM Edidem Dickson Umoette, Major General Edet Akpan and His Eminence Edidem Umoette noted that unity is most sustainable when it is nourished by justice.
The duo advised Akwa Ibom politicians not to scuttle the age long tripod zoning arrangement for the office of the governor if the prevailing peace and unity currently being experienced must be sustained.The prominent Ibibio sons noted that the political ladder finds expression in three sons of Ibibio (Akpan) Annang (Udoh) and Oro, (Etok Udoh).According to the elder statesman Ibibio in Uyo senatorial has had its turn in the late Obong Akpan Isemin who governed the state between 19991- 1993, and Obong Attah who held say from 1999- 2007.Annang in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district is currently enjoying its turn through Chief Godswill Akpabio who is expected to leave the stage in 2015 after eight years in office, adding that justice demands that Oro, the third leg of the tripod be allowed to also have a sense of belonging in the business of governing the state. “Akwa Ibom people are aware of the devastating consequence if justice and equity is compromised in 2015. If our Governor is not ready to enthrone true justice in his succession plan, the Ibibio people will resist any imposition of candidate’, the grand monarch maintained.
The Uyo elders appealed to Oro people to join forces with them so as to ensure relative peace in the state and advised them to tread the path of peace and progress in their agitation for Akwa Ibom State governor of Oro extraction in 2015.Addressing the Ibibio stakeholders during the meeting, the President General of Oro Union, Engr. Chief Asuquo Inuikim thanked Ibibio leaders for acknowledging that Akwa Ibom State was founded on the tripod of Ibibio, Annang and Oro, adding, that Oro people have been team players and had joined forces with the people of other ethnic groups. He described 2015 as a payback year for the peace loving people of Oro who are eager to register their existence in the hilltop mansion.
Engr. Inuikim informed the Ibibio stakeholders that Oro sons were instrumental to the emergence of Obong Victor Attah and Chief Godswill Akpabio, and that of Dr. Clement isong, Chief Donald Etiebet and Chief Udoakaha Esuene.Inuikim called on Akwa Ibom politicians to jettison moves capable of jeopardizing the hard earned unity in the state.
